Urban Beekeeping in Winnipeg

We are thrilled to continue our urban beekeeping partnership with Bee-Clean Building Maintenance for a second consecutive year. This collaboration has been a fantastic opportunity to support local biodiversity and highlight the importance of pollinators in our urban environment. Once again, we have two thriving hives set up within their secure compound. This season, our bees have been working diligently, gathering pollen and nectar to nurture their young brood and build up their reserves. We’re eagerly anticipating harvesting this unique and flavorful honey over the September long weekend. Presenting Bee-Clean Building Maintenance with this special honey will be a testament to our fruitful collaboration.

We are also excited to announce a new partnership with Harvard Developments at 301 Portage Avenue. Starting in 2025, our bees will take residence on the 32nd floor at Portage and Main, bringing urban beekeeping to new heights in Winnipeg!

Inspiring Education and Curiosity

While one part of our team oversees the city’s urban beekeeping, our honeybee farm remains a hub of activity with daily hive inspections and beehive tours. We’re delighted to continue hosting school groups at our apiary, offering educational experiences that inspire curiosity and foster an appreciation for the vital role of bees in our ecosystem. These visits allow students to learn firsthand about the wonders of beekeeping, the lifecycle of bees, and their crucial importance as pollinators.

This summer, we also had the privilege of attending four YMCA-YWCA summer camps, bringing along an observation hive to give children a closer look at the intricate world of honeybees. These sessions were a perfect mix of education and fun, leaving both the kids and our team with unforgettable memories.

Looking Ahead to Winter

As winter approaches, while the honeybees stay busy keeping their queen warm, groomed, and fed, we’ll shift our focus to bringing the fascinating world of beekeeping into classrooms across the city. Through engaging and interactive presentations, we’ll share our passion for honeybees with students, continuing our mission to educate and inspire the next generation of bee advocates.

A Heartfelt Thank You

Thank you to all our partners, visitors, and supporters for making this season such a success. Together, we’re building a brighter future for bees, biodiversity, and our environment!
